Cherokee Northeast, LLC retained SNS Architects & Engineers, PC to design a satellite office for the small creative group of a major national developer. It is the working/weekday living environment for a number of intense workaholics whose days regularly run into the night. The generous budget allowed for a social/work area for teaming and relaxing, complete with a food and beverage servery, a residential pantry and a cave-like library for small meetings, presentations or just getting away from the open physical and visual activity of the work area.
The views from the offices are the actual areas that the client was developing. The client wanted an open solution affording these views while still providing private work areas for senior staff. A manufactured glass wall/sliding door system optimizes natural light, views and communication from these private spaces.
The client’s work is heavily environmental in nature and a focus of the solution was a design which used systems, materials and furniture which fulfill the goals of LEED sustainability.
Lighting in the offices is occupancy controlled. Lighting in the open areas is triple zoned to measure ambient daylight and automatically rheostat the indirect lighting for balance, minimizing the use of electricity. To the extent possible in a commercial office building, the HVAC is digitally controlled to optimize performance and efficiency.
The solution is the physical embodiment of a prototype office environment to support the client’s developing culture of complete openness, staff support and communication.
